The Sieg X1L is a fairly robust little machine and I have used it for many years with few problems. Being a small mill means that it has its limitations and large cuts are not possible in one pass but they can be accomplished with multiple passes. A number of users have reported that they have broken the gears during arduous use.

Oct 23, 2013· Definitely 10 steps above the X2 that I was using in my garage. Use a 25% off coupon with it and it knocks the price down pretty decently! There is a decent following for it, it's considered a 6" x 26" knee mill in yahoo groups and whatnot. I was able to adapt an Enco powerfeed to the x axis and put a Sinpo digital read-out on mine.

Jul 02, 2019· I would urge you to consider making a belt drive conversion rather than replacing the gears in the mill headstock. The belt drive is much quieter, smoother and reduces any shock loading on the spindle. It is sudden shock loading that tend to upset the controller board. Oct 20, 2012· The stock X1 motor is 1/5 hp, drives through a noisy gear drive, and the spindle rpm is severely limited. The motor shown on my mill in the picture on the website is an E-flite Park 480 outrunner rated at about 1/3 hp. It is "geared" down to deliver approximately 7500 rpm while running a custom spindle through an almost silent belt drive.
